FoodSource: A single passion; a common vision

The founders of FoodSource came together with a vision and desire to create a unique produce company. FoodSource started as a procurement company that was driven by customer service. The company has flourished and in 2005 we joined forces with C.H. Robinson Worldwide, one of the world's largest third party logistics and produce companies. By coming together both companies have expanded the services they can offer their customers.

Our success has made it possible for us to reinvest our gains in human resources and to broaden our knowledge base. As part of the reinvestment, we’ve identified and recruited industry leaders in several categories, including retail category management, marketing, organic merchandising and programs, international sales, foodservice distributor training, retail warehouse, produce department sales training, and most recently logistics.

Ray Griffin - General Manager

Ray Griffin, General Manager of FoodSource, established himself as an expert on global markets and export sales while at Misionero, where he was the North American sales manager. Ray introduced Misionero’s organic packaged salad line into the Montreal market, a market that had resisted fresh-cut packaged organics until that time. Ray started his career in produce over twenty years ago, serving as export sales manager for Salyer American Fresh Foods and sales manager for Merrill Farms.

Ray is currently overseeing all FoodSource operations with a dedicated focus on the growth and development of FoodSource's private label and replenishment management team. His experience with fresh-cut packaged organics has had a significant impact on the growth of FoodSource's private label produce programs.

Larry Burk - Bulk Grower Programs

Larry Burk, a Manager for FoodSource, began his produce career as a buyer for Sysco. Three years later, Fresh Network recruited Larry to customize foodservice programs that ranged from year-long contract pricing to three month contracts to label programs, depending on the account’s needs. Eleven years after Larry started with Fresh Network, he decided to join FoodSource, where he manages the foodservice and procurement buying groups.

Dave Pinizzotto - Manager, Retail

Dave Pinizzotto, a Manager at FoodSource, learned the basics of the produce business on the docks of the Los Angeles Terminal Market. There, as a 14-year old, as well as during all of his summers while in high school and college, he loaded trucks for California Produce Distributors and eventually became a buyer. In 1987, he was recruited by Fresh Network in Salinas, where he handled retail, wholesale, and foodservice accounts. He became an expert in buying raw commodities for regional processors and negotiating year-round contract pricing. Today Dave utilizes his extensive produce experience to create successful and unique programs for their customers.

Michael Castagnetto - Sourcing Manager

Mike, Director of Operations at FoodSource, began his produce career as a buyer at America West Distributors and was rapidly promoted to senior buyer. In this position, he was responsible for procuring all fruits and vegetables for several large retail chains as well as several wholesale cooperatives.

In the FoodSource/America West merger in 2000, Mike moved to FoodSource as a buyer. He was promoted to Chief Information Officer in 2001. As CIO, Mike managed the company's information systems and account programs as well as analyzing operational and cash flow efficiencies. Mike's knowledge of FoodSource's operational capabilities, many of our customers' operational structures, and industry operational standards resulted in his promotion to Director of Operations in 2003.

Today, Mike plays an integral role in the organization, developing our foodservice and wholesale accounts.  His primary focus is on managing all sourcing, as well as overseeing FoodSource Nogales and Texas offices. Mike's ingenuity and diverse experience provides FoodSource with highly successful procurement solutions.

Gary York - Transportation General Manager

Gary, Transportation General Manager for FoodSource, started his career in transportation over fifteen years ago with C. H. Robinson. His career began at the New York City office, where he started the produce transportation services in 1995. This business was a success under Gary’s leadership, which is why he was selected to be the manager of the New York City Northeast Produce Office. In this position he was responsible for the success of a sales team that focused on produce transportation solutions for large retail and foodservice companies. Gary and his team offered customers solutions that included, supply chain maximization, business analyses and reporting, LTL, and more.

Gary’s vast knowledge of transportation and logistics became an extremely valuable asset to C. H. Robinson. His experiences lead him to be named Transportation Manager of the Northeast Produce Division. When FoodSource decided to extend their services to transportation there was no question that Gary would be an ideal fit. Gary opened the transportation division at FoodSource in the beginning of 2006. His knowledge, experience, and understanding led Gary to be named Transportation General Manager in 2008.

Sean Nelsen - Business Development Manager

Sean Nelsen, business development manager for FoodSource, has been a leader at C.H. Robinson for the last 13 years and was instrumental in growing the foodservice channel business since 2003. Sean played an integral role in developing new sourcing and supply chain management sales revenues over the last decade and took a lead role in defining our sourcing and transportation services line to restaurants. He brings supply chain visibility tools to produce shippers, distributors, and restaurants chains in the form of greater information over pricing, contract management, and freight execution. Sean led the C.H. Robinson account team that took second place in the 2010 CSCMP Supply Chain Innovation Award.

Chris Lemmon - Organics Manager

Chris Lemmon, manager of FoodSource Organics, started his career in produce over 17 years ago. He established himself as an expert in organic produce while at Misionero Vegetables. In 1995, he started in organic salads and managed the startup and sales of the Misionero organic salad program. Chris's vast knowledge of organic produce is an extremely valuable asset to FoodSource. Chris joined the company in 1998 to manage and sell the organic potato program for Skyline potato. Today, Chris focuses on development of our proprietary brand, Tomorrow's® Organics.

Chris Reade - Manager, Nogales, AZ / Mexico

Chris Reade has a well-rounded knowledge of the produce industry. He started his produce career at an early age in the Santa Maria, CA Valley. During his high school and college years he gained valuable knowledge of the production facet of agriculture holding various positions with farming, chemical and seed companies. After college he spent a few years as a production manager for a large carrot grower in the San Joaquin Valley before accepting his first produce sales position in Salinas, CA in 1997. He began his carreer at FoodSource in 2000 specializing in the procurement of Western vegetables. He currently manages our Nogales, AZ division as well as heading up our grower direct operations out of Mexico.

Keith Reese - Procurement Manager

After graduating from California Polytechnic State University with a BS in Agricultural Business, Keith began his career in the produce industry as a field buyer/inspector for various companies, including American West. In 1998, he was promoted onto the sales team at America West. With his determination and drive, he became responsible for managing house accounts and business growth. The FoodSource/America West merger in 2000 allowed Keith to truly blossom in sales and he stepped right into the role of Strategic Account Manager. He has been responsible for growing and maintaining several large retail accounts for the past 11 years. Today, Keith manages the procurement team responsible for supply chain management for both retail and wholesale accounts. He sees his future as a commitment to the people around him — to pass on the ability to rise above any obstacles and the understanding that an opportunity is only what you make of it.

Lee Moyer - Manager, FS Edinburg

Lee Moyer, manager of FoodSource Edinburg began his career in the produce business with mixed vegetables and dry onions. During this time, Lee was responsible for setting up seasonal satellite offices throughout Texas and New Mexico, eventually earning a position in sales. Establishing himself as an expert in the produce industry, he went on to set up his own company in both gift fruit and fundraising citrus programs throughout Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Louisiana. After building his company up over 10 years, he accepted an opportunity to help set up a Texas office for an out-of-state produce company. In 2003, FoodSource recruited him to help build a national tropical program. Today, Lee focuses on development of our tropical fruits category and oversees the FoodSource Edinburg operations.

David Rehnert, Service Center Manager at Foodsource, joined the company in 2010. David brings over 20 years of experience in distribution, logistics, transportation, reverse logistics, and inventory management. Throughout his career, David has managed multiple automated distribution centers and has been an active member of numerous professional supply chain organizations for over a decade.

Lara Grossman - Sales & Marketing Manager

Lara Grossman joined FoodSource in May, 2011. Her career in the produce industry began in 1999 at a marketing firm whose clients included salad processors, grower/shippers, and produce wholesalers. She has over 10 years of experience in customer promotions, packaging design, new product development, website design, and marketing communications. Lara also worked for a grower/shipper where she was integral to the company’s re-branding effort, product innovations, and trade promotions. At FoodSource, Lara oversees all marketing efforts for the company and works closely with key customers to enhance and increase their business.
